The aim of the Swachh Bharat Mission, or Clean Mission India, is to eradicate open defecation and improve sanitation in India. The government constructed over 10 crore toilets that were of twin-pit toilet design with in-situ faecal sludge treatment. The programme will also incorporate source sustainability measures as requirements, such as water saving, rainwater collection, and recharge and reuse through grey water management.
